HAKOM: Significantly higher Investments in the Mobile Networks

PRESS RELEASE

Investments in the mobile networks have increased compared to the same period last year.

ZAGREB, June 6, 2019 – After the fee reduction and allocation of new 2,100 MHz and 2,600 MHz frequency bands the investments in mobile networks continued to grow. In the first quarter of 2019, the mobile network was invested almost twice as much as in the same period of 2018, i.e. slightly less than 320 million HRK.

The number of broadband internet access connections in the fixed network grew slightly more than 3 percent on an annual basis. The number of connectors through copper pairs is constantly decreasing, the number of connectors being increased through fibre optic and high-speed cable networks. FttH fittings grew the most, by about 40 percent over the same period last year. Fixed-voice services are traditionally declining and are less beneficial.

In the mobile networks, revenues from telephone services grew by almost 3 percent at the annual level with a simultaneous increase in number of users. The number of received   SMS and MMS  decreased by 13 percent of the use of alternative Internet applications.

Total Internet traffic is 23 percent higher than before. The growth of data traffic in fixed networks is less due to the growth in traffic in mobile networks. Data traffic in mobile networks does not currently make the quarter of total traffic, but the difference is rapidly decreasing.

The users still prefer the fixed and mobile network service, and the total number of such users has increased by 8.5 percent. The market distribution of TV programmes with the payment of fees recorded growth of about 4 percent compared to the previous year. IPTV continues to be the leading technology with a market share of around 29 percent, which is a significant development of this part of the market, and it is still significant since 44 percent of households are watching TV exclusively via DVB-T signals from the transmitters.
