The elementary school “Izidor Kršnjavi” hosted the Safer Internet Day. On this occasion HAKOM, the Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (the Safer Internet Centre) and three Croatian mobile operators announced the web platform SINI – Safe on the Internet. The platform provides a central point for assistance to children, young people, parents and experts in the education system on the issues concerning the security and behaviour on the Internet.
Zagreb, February 5, 2019 - This year's International Secure Internet Day was marked with the slogan "Together for Better Internet". On this occasion, HAKOM and the Centre for Missing and Abused Children (CNZD) from Osijek gathered pupils and teachers of the Elementary School “Izidor Kršnjavi” from Zagreb as well as the representatives of operators to draw attention to the problem of child safety online.
The conference began with the song of the student choir, which reminded of the old times - playing tag, ice queen, and when toys were dumbbells and dummies. Moderator Iva Šulentić talked with the pupils who said they saw the playground 20 years ago and how their playground looked like a new era. Today, children spend more and more time on so-called a digital playground with many challenges.
"More than 95% of children in Croatia have access to the Internet, mostly via mobile devices and every third child is exposed to inappropriate content and abuse over the Internet. By marking the Day of Safer Internet, we want to draw the attention of all actors and remind them of this burning problem and that everyone has to do their part. That is why we decided to launch the SINI platform, "said Tomislav Ramljak, head of CNZD.
The platform includes educational content for children, teenagers and parents on the Internet protection and the safe usage of mobile devices and new technologies. SINI was born in response to the real need of numerous experts, professors and teachers for the Internet security education. It is a comprehensive electronic platform enabling the practitioners across the country to easily perfect, which is especially important for professionals in regions where this type of education is rarely available.
"The platform's aim is to make available and consolidate on one site the online security content for children, young people, parents, teachers, professors and other professionals",Ramljak emphasized. The project has been carried out in cooperation with the Croatian Regulatory authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), A1 Croatia, Croatian Telecom and Tele2. As part of the Day of the Safer Internet Day, project partners have also signed the Charter on Security and Protection of Children on the Internet, which aims to show a common commitment to the goal of creating better Internet.
As a partner in the project of this web platform, Miran Gosta, Executive Director at HAKOM stressed out: "For many years, we have been trying to make our contribution to make the Internet safer and better place for everyone, especially children as the youngest users of digital society services. Our online children's and parent's brochures have already been delivered to students of the fifth grade in all elementary schools for the third consecutive year, but we know that we can give more. Therefore, we are launching a SINI - Secure online web project together with the operators who give us access to the Internet and civil society representatives who are involved in this important topic."
Launching the SINI web platform is expected in the upcoming months, and full functionality, can be expected in the fall including the level of professional training.
