HAKOM at the this Year’s second BEREC Plenary Session

At the meeting held in Gdansk-Sopot, the main topics were related to the BEREC document on common positions regarding monitoring the signal coverage of mobile communications networks, the distribution of infrastructure among mobile operators and the discussion on the importance and impact of data economy.
ZAGREB, June 15, 2018 - HAKOM's representatives took part in this year's BEREC Plenary Meeting (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications) which was held on June 14 and 15 in Gdansk- Sopot, Poland. The meeting’s topic was related to the BEREC document on common positions related to monitoring the mobile network coverage, the report on sharing the infrastructure among mobile network operators and the discussion on the importance and impact of data economy. The document on common positions on monitoring mobile network coverage has been approved for public discussion. The regulator’s obligation is monitor the coverage of mobile communications network signal and publish the coverage data. Publishing methods can be different; therefore the purpose of this document is to equalize the coverage. The report on sharing the infrastructure among mobile communications operators was approved for public announcement. This document is particularly important with regard to the development of 5G technology that will require a larger number of base stations than the current 4G technology.
The today’s data has a strong role in almost all branches of the economy including the electronic communications market. The electronic communications market is strongly connected to other areas, strongly related to the data economy (i.e. On-line Platform, Sensors for Data Collection, Audio Visual Content Providers). According to the afore-mentioned, a workshop was held on the importance and impact of data on today's economy (Data Economy the day before BEREC plenary sessions). The workshop was divided into three parts. The first part emphasized the importance of data on today's economy at various institutions while the third part gave perspectives by interested foreign associations of historical operators (ETNO), European Telecommunications Network. Referring to the workshop, held before the Plenary Sessions, the Plenary Session continued discussion of the importance of data in today's world economy and the impact of all this on the electronic communications market. BEREC plans to adopt a report on the importance of all data on the market next June at the next plenary session of electronic communications market.
