VUKOVAR, 15 September 2017 - In order to coordinate the activities of all stakeholders in the railway services market and to strengthen the rail freight and the market for rail services in inland waterway ports, the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) organized the 7
th round table of stakeholders in the railway service market held in Vukovar.
The Round Table gathered the representatives of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure,headed by Nikolian Brnjac the State Secretary, Petar Lagator, Deputy Prefect , Zdenko Podolar, Head of the Administrative Department for Economic and Regional Development of Vukovar-Srijem County, Srđan Milaković, Deputy Mayor of Osijek-Baranja County, Deputy Mayor of Vukovar City, the representatives of the City of Vinkovci, the Faculty of Law University in Osijek and Boris Bakota, Associate Professor from the Department of Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Law, Aleksandra Vasilj, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Maritime and General Traffic Rights, Biljana Činčurak Erceg from the same department, Marija Boban, , Head of Department for Economic and Financial Sciences, Faculty of Law, University of Split and Drago Žagar, Dean of FERIT Osijek and Hrvoje Glavaš, a professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, representatives of port authorities in Osijek, Vukovar and Slavonski Brod, Infrastructure Manager (HŽ Infrastruktura doo) and freight carriers (HŽ Cargo Ltd., Rail Cargo Carrier Croatia Ltd., Rail & Sea doo, Train Hungary Magánvasút Ipari, Branch office Zagreb).
HAKOM presented the situation on the market of railway services and regulatory activities on the rail services market while port authorities represented the current status and development plans at the ports of Vukovar, Osijek and Slavonski Brod. The representatives of Academic community held lectures focusing on the future of port operations and challenges they face in their business, both at this moment and in the future presenting the vision of the future development of inland waterways in the Republic of Croatia.
The Round Table is aimed to emphasize the importance of the ports in the development of railway freight transport by increasing the competitiveness and importance of the same in the development of the economy of the Republic of Croatia. In order to address the challenges posed by the railway service market in Slavonia, it is necessary to coordinate the activities of all stakeholders in market. Therefore the participation of representatives of the ministries and local and regional self-government was crucial, as their representatives could influence the creation of more favourable conditions for strengthening the ports' business activities which is expected to lead to an increase in freight rail transport in Slavonia, reflecting at the national level.
