NEWS
The Internet of Things – IOT was the most important discussion topic of the workshop which was held in Brussels.
ZAGREB, February 1, 2017 – Following the organization of the European Regulatory Authorities for the Electronic Communications, the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications- BEREC held the workshop on the Internet of Things - IOT in Brussels. The objective was to bring together the national regulatory authorities and industry representatives in order to discuss potential regulatory issues and solutions needed to encourage and ensure a rapid (sustainable) development of the IOT thus providing significant benefits for citizens and consumers across various industries. In addition, specific telecommunications topics like the usage of radio frequency spectrum and numbering space were the topics discussed at the workshop as well as other issues primarily related to innovation and investments, consumer rights and the privacy of data.
The workshop was a continuation of BEREC's work on the topic which was summarized in the report "Enabling the Internet of Things" in February 2016. The report cleared out whether and to which extent, the existing provisions of regulatory framework for the electronic communications were suitable for IOP, or M2M (machine to machine communication ) services. According to BEREC and referring to the revision of the existing regulatory framework for electronic communications, apart from roaming and number portability no special measures are being required for IOP and / or M2M services.
On behalf of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries HAKOM’s experts Robert Vulas and Velimir Švedek participated at the workshop.
