Zagreb, 9 December 2016 – The European Commission and the Organization European Rail Infrastructure Managers and Allocation Bodies, RailNetEurope, organized in Vienna the 3rdEuropean Rail Freight Day. The conference covered various topics from the railway sector. The most interesting for the Republic of Croatia was the topic of rail freight corridors. It was discussed whether rail freight corridors are compliant with the needs of users of rail freight transport. With a view to increasing the efficiency of operations, it is necessary to establish better flow of information on the status of trains, which was also one of the topics discussed at the conference, including the issue of rail infrastructure known as the "last mile" infrastructure which serves as a link between public rail infrastructure and service facilities. The discussions also focused on the development of international train schedules (including temporary restrictions of capacity) and the development of the ECTS (European Train Control System - a single European standard for railway traffic control).
The topic of rail freight corridors included a presentation of the current state of rail corridors and further development projects and the Luxembourg Protocol (annexed to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment on Matters Specific to Railway Rolling Stock).
The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) was represented at the meeting by a senior expert for legal affairs, Mrs. Dragica Flam, and the expert on rail services, Mr. Kristijan Solina.
