HAKOM at the meeting of the Postal Directive Committee

The topics of the meeting included the European Parliament Resolution of 15 September 2016 on the application of the Postal Services Directive and draft Regulation on cross-border parcel delivery services.
Zagreb, 6 December 2016 – A meeting of the Postal Directive Committee was held in Brussels on Monday, 5 December. The meeting was attended by an expert from the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), Mrs. Ana Šubat Perković.
The most important topics of the meeting included the European Parliament Resolution of 15 September 2016 on the application of the Postal Services Directive and draft Regulation on cross-border parcel delivery services. The Resolution analyses the necessary changes related to the final objective of ensuring long-term sustainability of the universal service obligation and fair competition, while giving postal service providers the possibility to deal with new requirements and changes in consumers' life style. The Commission proposes in the draft Regulation new rules for e-commerce since parcel delivery market has been recognized as very competitive, innovative, and fast-growing. The objective is to enable all users and companies to benefit from the single market. This package of measures will provide to users and companies in the entire EU an easier and more reliable manner of buying and selling goods and services online. In addition to the above, the meeting also included discussions on standards, international issues, the Universal Postal Union Congress which was held in September and October of this year in Istanbul, postal statistics, a presentation of studies that are in progress and a report on all activities of the European Regulators Group for Postal Services (ERGP).
