The major topic of the meeting was the ERGP medium-term strategy for the period between 2017-2019 and the cross-border package delivery in the system of e-commerce from the perspective of end- users as well as the further development of the EU postal services market. The postal sector faces a series of structural changes such as: new needs and habits of the users of postal services deriving from the implementation of new knowledge and technologies, ubiquitous electronic substitution of traditional postal services and in recent years a very important development of e-commerce, representing a very important market connection among postal service providers, retailers and buyers of goods and services (postal service users).
In order to support the above mentioned development of the postal services, the focus of the Medium-Term Strategy ERGP is on the encouraging the use of the capacity of the postal network of the national postal service providers and the accompanying postal services, the promotion of new products and services, as well as on the further opening of the postal market and the impact of changes within the scope and viability of the universal service. In addition one of European Commission’s strategic initiatives, to develop a single digital market, is of great importance as well as indirect measures to remove cross-border barriers and further growth/development of e-commerce.
