ZAGREB, October 21, 2016 – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD, organized and held the Conference in Athens on October 20 and 21. The topic was on the importance of investing in broadband high-speed networks and the networks that allow bit-rates to reach more than 30 Mbit / s. Domagoj Jurjević, Deputy President of the Council of HAKOM and Marko Čavlović, Assistant Director participated at the regional conference on behalf of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM).
The conference was divided into five sessions. The first session placed emphasis on the importance and role of Strategy for Broadband Development as well on clear national goals in high- speed network construction. A roundtable discussion was held within the scope of the Conference. Marko Čavlović, Assistant Director presented the Croatian Strategy for Broadband Development for the period from 2016 to 2020 and the objectives expected within the future period.
The second session showed the current status and the future plans for the development of high-speed networks in Greece, Ireland and Croatia. Domagoj Jurjević, Deputy President of the Council of HAKOM actively participated in the round table by presenting the current status of broadband networks in Croatia and the challenges lying ahead.
Other representatives of industry, the European Commission (EC) and consulting companies gave their opinions on the investment in high-speed networks in other sessions. The conference was attended by the representatives of regulatory bodies, government, operators and consulting companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Montenegro, France, Greece, Croatia, Ireland, Jordan and Serbia, as well as the representatives of EBRD and the European Commission.
