HAKOM at the 26th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU)

The Congress of the Universal Postal Union will be held in Istanbul from September 20 to October 7, bringing together more than two thousand delegates, the representatives of UPU Member States. The aim of the Congress is to define the future of the global postal sector.
ZAGREB September 19, 2016 – Istanbul is hosting the 26th Congress of UPU - Universal Postal Union starting Tuesday, September 20. More than 2,000 delegates from 192 Member States of the international postal organizations will participate at the Congress which will last till October 7, 2016 in order to define the future of global postal sector for the period between 2017 and 2020. Aside from electing a new term for UPU leadership for the next mandate period, the participants of the Congress will discuss the UPU’s recent results and achievements since the last Congress in Doha (2012) . The discussion topics are as follows: a number of structural challenges and many changes the international postal organization has to face with in the present and the future, aimed at successful and efficient development of the postal sector in the modern world and eventually the global digital electronic substitution for written communication.
Accordingly, Congress should adopt a set of appropriate professional technical and technological regulations, acts and documents and the accent is put on the new Istanbul World Postal Strategy for the period 2017-2020.
At the 26th UPU Congress in Istanbul the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) will be represented by Mr. Andrej Sardelić, Head of Postal Services Department and Mr. Marijan Bolarić, Member of the Council of HAKOM)
