Electronic communications market grows in the Republic of Croatia in 2010
PRESS RELEASE
A total number of broadband access connections was 1,132,212 at the end of 2010, which represented an increase of 20.8 per cent when compared with the end of 2009
ZAGREB, 1 March 2011 – The electronic communications market in the Republic of Croatia continued its growing trend during 2010, which had also been recorded in the previous years. By its clear strategy and corresponding regulatory decisions, in the course of the year HAKOM enabled the growth of the market in mobile and fixed communication networks, as well as broadband access market.
At the end of 2010, there were 6,362,106 users in mobile communication networks, which represented a rise by 5.4 per cent when compared with the end of 2009. This also represents an increase in the market penetration from 136.1 per cent at the end of 2009 to 143.5 per cent at the end of 2010. Also, the third operator, Tele2, increased its market share by 17.1 per cent when compared with 2009. This shows that there are three stable and good quality operators on the electronic communications market in the Republic of Croatia, capable of providing final users with high quality innovative services.
The above is also obvious from the increase in the number of connections of the broadband access in mobile communication networks, which, at the end of 2010, was 328,389, or 30.2 per cent higher when compared with the previous year. An effective competition on the mobile communication networks market is obvious, with an increase in the number of connections of the broadband access to which all three mobile network operators have contributed, as well as in the number of ported numbers, which, at the end of 2010, were 194,892 or up by 76.8 per cent than at the end of 2009.
On the fixed communication networks market there is a larger number of operators that can offer a full range of services to end users (publicly accessible telephone service, the service of broadband access and the IPTV service). At the end of 2010, the new operators had 587,522 users, which represents a market share of 31.2 per cent or an increase of 17.4 per cent when compared with the previous year. Both fixed and mobile communication markets have recorded a rise in the number of ported numbers, which at the end of 2010 was up by 29.1 per cent than the previous year. A slight decline of 1.6 per cent in the number of the CPS (Carrier Preselection) service is connected with the increase in the number of unbundled local loops of 7.9 per cent when compared with the end of 2009. Namely, the new operators are growingly using the more advanced wholesale options or services by which in addition to the publicly available telephone service (such as CPS) they are also able to offer other services to end users, i.e. broadband access and IPTV services.
Apart from mobile communication networks, the number of connections of the broadband access also rose in the fixed communication networks in the course of 2010. At the end of 2010, the recorded number of connections amounted to 803,823, or 17.4 per cent more than at the end of 2009. This increase has been reported by all counties, which shows that operators offer their services throughout the entire territory of the Republic of Croatia.
