HAKOM assists Turkish regulator
PRESS RELEASE
HAKOM’s experts assist the Turkish regulator in the process of liberalisation of their postal services market
ZAGREB, 28 January 2014 – The EU Directorate General for Enlargement, which implements TAIEX missions by providing short-term technical assistance to candidate and potential candidate countries in the enforcement and implementation of EU legislation, has established co-operation between HAKOM and the Turkish regulator. HAKOM has positively responded to the request by the Turkish regulator, the Turkish Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA), for a TAIEX mission in the area of postal services, and sent two experts to Ankara. HAKOM’s experts, Ana Šubat Perković and Marijan Bolarić, will carry out the TAIEX mission by the end of January and share the experience of the Republic of Croatia in the process of a full liberalisation of the postal services market, in accordance with the EU postal directives.
This is a first such HAKOM’s participation in the provision of technical assistance to the regulators of non-EU countries, and it is a proof of a high degree of trust the Croatian regulator enjoys beyond the state borders, in particular as it has been less than seven months since Croatia’s accession to the EU.
