HAKOM gets Vice-Chairmanship at BEREC

PRESS RELEASE

Deputy President of the Council of HAKOM, Domagoj Jurjević, has been elected as Vice-Chair of BEREC, the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications.

ZAGREB, 6 December 2013 – Domagoj Jurjević, Deputy President of the Council of HAKOM, has been elected as Vice-Chair at today’s plenary session of BEREC (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications) in Budapest.

Since 2006, HAKOM has been an active member of international institutions. In their selection, the regulatory bodies of all EU Member States, the members of BEREC, have recognised the proactivity, expertise and vision shown in the process of liberalization of the Croatian electronic communications market, the leadership role in the region and a significant contribution of HAKOM’s experts in the activity of BEREC. The election of the representative of HAKOM to the position of Vice-Chair, within less than a half year of the fully-fledged membership at BEREC, is not only a confirmation of excellence, but it will also enable the Republic of Croatia a more active participation in the creation of conditions for the setting up of a single European electronic communications market, while necessarily preserving and further developing the conditions in the Croatian market, achieved by the liberalization of the electronic communications market.

BEREC – the organisation of European regulatory bodies was established in 2009 by the European Parliament and Council, and it assumed its current role in the market in 2011. In its work, BEREC replaced the European Regulators Group (ERG), which existed in the market until 2002, as an advisory body to the European Commission. In its work, BEREC ensures an independent and consistent regulation of the electronic communications market in the EU, based on the highest expert standards, all for the benefit of the European Union and its citizens. Göran Marby, Director General of the Swedish regulator (PTS), will be Chair of BEREC in 2014.
