HAKOM: Rail Freight Transport continues to grow

In the second quarter of 2018, a positive trend was recorded in the volume of   transported goods   as well as a growth of 12 percent in comparison to the same quarter of the previous year.

 
ZAGREB, September 10, 2018 - In the second quarter, the number of six active rail carriers was recorded on the rail freight market in the Republic of Croatia. Freight carriers recorded the growth in volume of transported goods which is the 12 % higher compared to the same period of 2017 and 19 higher compared to the previous quarter.
 
Although the second quarter recorded a slight decline of 1.2% in tonne kilometres, new freight carriers continued to grow by achieving 44% more tonne kilometres in comparison to the same period of 2017. Train kilometres remained at the level of the second quarter of 2017 but they increased by 3 percent compared to the first quarter of 2018.
 
Rail passenger transport continues recording a slight increase of 3 % in the number of passengers transported compared to the same quarter of 2017 and 1 % in comparison to the previous quarter. When observing the passenger transport in terms of realized passenger kilometres the growth of 1 % is recorded compared to the same period last year and the growth of 8 % compared to the previous quarter.
