HAKOM: The Railway Services Market keep recording a significant Growth

In the first quarter of 2018 the total volume of goods transported by rail increased by 4 compared to the same quarter of the year before.

 
ZAGREB, June 15, 2018 – The data for the first quarter of 2018 show a continuation of the positive business activities of freight transport carriers, evidently  due to a total increase in the volume of  transported goods  and achieved tonne kilometres.  In the first quarter of 2018, freight carriers transported together 4% more goods compared to the same period last year. In reference to the tonne kilometres, a slow growth has been recorded  because, the  total of  0.4 percent more tonne kilometres was achieved compared to the first quarter of 2017, while the total amount  of  tonne kilometres was in decline by 1 %.

Significant business activity of new freight carriers is visible from the volume of transported goods since the previously mentioned increased the carriage for 7 times more in the first quarter of 2018 compared to the first quarter of 2016 and more than twice compared to the first quarter of 2017. In the first quarter of 2018 a new cargo carriers held almost half the market share of the goods transported and achieved almost 65 % more tonne kilometres compared to the first quarter of last year, showing a steady growth trend for new rail carriers in the rail freight transport market in the Republic of Croatia. Their market share measured  in tonnes kilometres represents the  increase of 2 % in comparison to the  quarter before.
 
Passenger rail transport recorded the growth of 3% with regard to the  passengers transported over the same quarter of the previous years, as well as the growth of passenger miles in the observed period, which is also higher by 3 % compared with the same quarter of the year before.
