ZAGREB, July 18, 2017 - HAKOM has issued a recommendation on the minimum technical requirements for DVB-T2 reception in the Republic of Croatia representing the minimum technical requirements  necessary to be  met by DVB-T2 in order to provide high quality reception services in the Republic of Croatia. This recommendation was developed through the cooperation between HAKOM, and representatives of the Agency for Electronic Media, network operators and multiplex operators, public and private TV publishers and representatives of the academic community.

The final allocation of "second digital dividend" for services in mobile communications networks in the majority of the   EU Member States is expected by June 30, 2020. The allocation of radio spectrum  will enable further development of broadband services through mobile communications networks but also significantly reduce the availability of this spectrum for digital television. In order to enable economical transmission of High Definition TV (HD) content in terrestrial networks and facilitate the development of new services, it is necessary to switch to a more efficient DVB-T2 system with H.265 / HEVC video encoding. Together with comparable reception conditions, the DVB-T2 system offers more flexibility and up to 50% higher transfer capacity compared to the DVB-T system. The beginning of migration of the digital terrestrial television broadcasting service available for public reception with DVB-T on DVB-T2 in the Republic of Croatia is planned in 2019. The announcement of the Recommendation is one of the pre-conditions for the introduction of a special logo on DVB-T2 receivers that will guarantee compliance with the broadcasting standard in Croatia. The choice of the logo, as well as the prescribing of the receiver certification process for the Croatian market, is planned in 2018.
