HAKOM has organized the 6th Round Table of Railway Freight Market Participants with a Focus on South Region and the Importance of the Port of South Region

The round table was preceded by working meetings of representatives of HAKOM with the representatives of the ports of Ploče and Šibenik, discussing the liberalization of the rail services market, the obligations of service providers and the development of the railway market through port service facilities, which are significant transport of generators for railway freight carriers. The possibility of improving the amount of cargo and the quality of transport.
 
ZAGREB, May 12, 2017 - The Croatian Regulatory Agency for Network Services (HAKOM) organized the 6th Round Table on Rail Services Market with a Focus on South Region and the Importance of the Port in the Region, held on Friday, May 12, in Split. Representatives of Split-Dalmatia and Šibenik-Knin County, representatives of the City of Šibenik, HGK, Faculty of Law in Split, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FESB) in Split, Port Authority and Port of Šibenik, Split and Ploče, Infrastructure Manager participated in the Round Table (HŽ Infrastruktura doo) and freight carriers.
 
Maintenance 6. Work meetings of representatives of HAKOM, Railway Services Department, in the ports of Ploče and Šibenik with the representatives of the mentioned ports where the liberalization of the rail services market, the obligations of the service providers and the possibilities of development of the railway market were discussed. Through service facilities that are significant traffic generators for railway Freight carriers and opportunities for improvement in terms of increasing cargo volume and transport quality.
 
HAKOM presented the situation on the market of railway services and regulatory activities on the rail services market in 2016. The purpose of the Round Table is to encourage the discussion of all stakeholders in the railway services market on the competitiveness of rail freight transport and its importance in the economy. The main discussion was about the role and significance of the harbor region South in the development of rail freight transport. In order to address the challenges posed by the rail services market in South region, it is necessary to coordinate the activities of all stakeholders in the mentioned market, which would have the effect of strengthening the competitiveness of these ports and ultimately strengthening the economy of the Republic of Croatia as a whole. Strengthening the role of ports in freight transport in the Republic of Croatia is also important because of the impact on the overall freight transport of the European Union.
 
HAKOM has so far successfully held five roundtables in which they have actively participated in the railway, port and economy market stakeholders in order to consider the situation in the railway sector and the promotion of rail transport. Through a joint discussion, the players of the rail market are encouraged to create even better conditions for the functioning of the market and to increase the quality of transport services and the quality of transport services, all in order to increase the competitiveness of the Republic of Croatia in rail freight transport.
