HAKOM's Contribution on “Media Literacy for Responsible Society”

The Association for Communication and Media culture and the Agency for the Electronic Media organized and held a round table on “Media Literacy for Responsible Society”.


ZAGREB, February 9, 2016 –The Association for Communication and Media Culture and the Agency for the Electronic Media (AEM) the round table on media literacy for responsible society was held in Zagreb on February 9, Zagreb. The meeting brought together many experts from media and academia. The round table was organized on the occasion of the beginning of the implementation of the project entitled “The children of media for active citizenship- the media literacy trainings“, which was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Science and Education in twelve Croatian counties. Following the invitation of the organizers, Mr. Dražen Lučić, President of the Council at the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) participated at the round table. On behalf of HAKOM Mr. Lučić gave a speech to the participants and emphasized the importance of HAKOM in the protection of children as Internet users.
 
The project aims to encourage children, parents and their associates to be the critically conscious users of media by actively searching for the information, offering advice on how to take advantage of technology and media. The portal on media literacy “medijskapismenost.hr“ was presented at the roundtable which is primarily intended for parents” aimed to support primarily parents, guardians and teachers to raise the level of their own media literacy and media skills and children’s knowledge” The topics were on the importance of media literacy in Croatian educational system, the activities of public institutions in the promotion of media literacy, strengthening the educational institutions for quality program is media literacy as well as on the examples of good practice in the Republic of Croatia  that are recognized around the world. In addition, it was discussed about the participation of Europe's leading researches on children’s media habits.
