Marking the World Post Day and the Croatian Post Day (HP)
NEWS
Yesterday the World Post Day was celebrated, and today the Croatian Post Day is being celebrated commemorating the October 10, 1991 when the Croatian Parliament established a public company HPT, the ancestor of today's Croatian Post.
ZAGREB, 10 October 2016 - Last week, on October 7, the 2th Congress of Universal Postal Union – UPU was held in Istanbul (Turkey) and on October 9, as every year, the World Post Day is celebrated throughout the world commemorating the Union’s founding in 1874 in Bern.
The World Post Day was declared at the Universal Postal Union Congress, held in Tokyo (Japan) in 1969. Marking the World Day of mail and postal service is aimed at promoting the importance of the postal sector in people's everyday lives and their business as a significant contribution in the socio-economic development of the countries.
Using the appropriate topics and slogans to mark World Post Day, the Universal Postal Union encourages UPU member states to emphasize the importance of the postal services, as well as their role and activities in the local community, society as well as in the media at the national level.
This year the date is even more important because of the results and conclusions of the 26th Congress of the UPU held in Istanbul. This year using the slogan “Using a new society: the delivery behind your front door” UPU wants to draw attention to the numerous challenges, such as the technological change in the modern world and the conclusions of the completion of the 26th UPU Congress. The international postal organization wants to effectively and efficiently respond to those challenges by continuing with its main task - to enable all people affordable and high-quality postal services regardless of where they live (in the city center or on the outskirts).
At the same time in the Republic of Croatia the Croatian Post Day (HP) is celebrated every year on October 10 commemorating the day when the Law on founding of the Public Croatian Postal and Telecommunications Company (HPT) was brought by the Croatian Parliament, HPT is predecessor of today’s Croatian Post, the universal service provider.
