HAKOM at the 26th UPU Congress

UPU's Congress discussed the proposals on structural changes within the international postal organizations and the series of professional technical documentation accompanying these changes.

 
ZAGREB, October 7, 2016 -The 26th Congress of the Universal Postal Union was held in in Istanbul, Turkey. The Congress was held from 20 September to 7 October 2016. The participants were delegates from 192 Member States of the specialized international agencies of the United Nations. As the supreme body of the UP the Congress is held every four years.
 
After the adoption of the report on UPU results and achievements the Congress presented the activity plan for the preparation of UPU reform until the next Extraordinary Congress scheduled for 2018. The Congress also adopted the proposal for Ethiopia which will be the host of the Congress in 2018.
 
Aimed at a successful and effective development of the postal sector under the new conditions, the  Congress has passed a range of professional regulations, acts and documents, among which a new system of terminal charges for the items of correspondence and small packages should be stressed out as well as new Istanbul World Postal Strategy for the period 2017-2020.
 
At the end of the session the former CEO Bishara A. Hussein (Kenya) was re-elected by the Congress as General Director for the period from 2017 to 2020, a former Deputy Director Pascal Clivaz (Switzerland) was re-elected as Deputy General Director.
 
At the UPU Congress in Istanbul, the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) was represented by Mr. Marijan Bolarić, Member of the Council and Mr. Andrej Sardelić, Head of Postal Services Department.
