ZAGREB, 7 September 2016 – A meeting of the Working Party on Telecommunications and Information Society was held in Brussels. The Working Party deals with issues concerning information and communication technology and infrastructure, Internet and the creation of the single digital market. The main topic of the meeting was the discussion on the proposal for the Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council related to the Regulation on roaming in public communications networks in the EU.
A representative of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), Mr. Mislav Hebel, participated as an expert at the meeting of the working group where the proposal of the Regulation on wholesale roaming charges was discussed. The adoption of this Regulation is a necessary precondition for complete elimination of retail roaming charges which is expected by June 2017. The Regulation will be adopted in the ordinary legislative procedure which requires the agreement on its text by both the Council of the EU and the European Parliament. A compromise will have to be made during the discussion between interests of Member States with significant influx of foreign users during the tourist season and those of EU Member States whose citizens often travel within the EU.
