HAKOM: Increasing demand for parcel servicesPRESS RELEASEGrowth in the number of parcels on the postal services market in the Republic of Croatia continued in the second quarter of 2016, which resulted in the increased total revenue of all postal service providers.
ZAGREB, 5 September 2016 – In the second quarter of 2016, the postal services market in the Republic of Croatia showed a continuation of trend from the previous periods. The most significant growth was recorded in the parcel service segment where the number services increased by 18 percent compared to the first quarter of 2016, that is, by 14 percent compared to the same period of last year. This mostly resulted from the increased share of “express” parcels, that is, services containing an added value, with the increasing share of such parcels resulting from e-commerce. The number of e-commerce parcels increased by 21 percent compared to the previous quarter. At the same time this contributed to the growth in the number of parcels on the total market with parcels currently having slightly more than 5% of the total share of al parcels.
A total of 22 providers provided their services on the postal services market in the Republic of Croatia. The dominant provider is HP-Hrvatska pošta d.d. with an 80% market share.Positive developments were also recorded in relation to revenue from the provision of postal services which, regardless of the decrease in the total number of postal services provided, increased by 2% in the second quarter compared to the first quarter of 2016 and by 8% compared to the same period of last year, primarily due to the increased demand for parcel-related services. It is expected that such trends will continue considering positive developments in the economy which influence the demand for postal services but also because of the possibilities offered to postal service providers as a result of increased volume of e-commerce.
