HAKOM: The number of packages on the postal services market is on the rise

PRESS RELEASE

The postal services market in the Republic of Croatia recorded an increase in the number of packages in the third quarter which partly influenced the increase in the total revenue from the provision of postal services.

ZAGREB, 30 November 2015 – The number of packages on the postal services market in the Republic of Croatia has been continuously increasing from the beginning of 2015, in particular in the segment of high value services. Since the beginning of the year the number of packages increased by over 400 thousand resulting in the increase of their share on the total market of postal services by around one percent. For that reason the packages currently make around five percent of the overall market. This kind of trend was to be expected since e-commerce is on the rise, and package delivery is an indispensable part in the chain linking the buyer and the seller. Total growth was also influenced by adjustments of postal service providers which included the offer of new and the adjustment of the existing services. The positive trend is expected to continue in the future, on one hand due to the growth of e-commerce services, and on the other hand, as a result of the growth of business activities which are an overall generator of demand for these services.

The growth in the number of packages influenced, on one hand, the increase in the total revenue from the provision of postal services by seven percent compared to the previous quarter, and by five percent compared to the same period in the previous year. The consolidation on the postal services market continued in the third quarter which resulted in the increasing of the market share of the Croatian Post (HP) by six percent to around 82 percent.
