HAKOM Accepted the Offer by Vipnet, by the End of the Year the State Budget will be Richer for over HRK 140 Million
PRESS RELEASE
HAKOM allocated the remaining radio frequency spectrum in the frequency range of mobile telecommunications networks to Vipnet. This year the state budget revenues will be increased for over HRK 140 million.
ZAGREB, November 17 2015 – The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) passed the decision on the allocation of the remaining radio frequency spectrum in the frequency range of the mobile telecommunications networks to Vipnet.. It refers to two frequency blocks, 15.6 MHz in total. The decision was made after the completion of the public auction where the only submitted bid was the one by Vipnet offering the amount of HRK141 million for two frequency blocks. By the payment into the state budget by the end of this year the budget income will be additionally increased for said amount.
The granted license is technologically neutral, meaning that Vipnet is free to use all the existing technologies available for mobile communications, from GSM to LTE. By allocating this additional radio frequency spectrum Vipnet will increase the capacity of its network and it will provide the end-users with a high- speed Internet access. A high density of broadband Internet access has a positive impact on the economy as a whole representing a further step towards meeting the requirements prescribed by the Digital Agenda for Europe in 2020 according to which the targets were set to provide all households in the European Union with broadband access with the speeds of at least 30 Mbit / s and that at least 50 percent of households have a subscription to broadband speeds of 100 Mbit / s and more.
The Republic of Croatia was one of the first ten or so countries in the world who granted technologically neutral licenses to its operators of mobile communication networks, the frequencies being liberated by the switchover to digital terrestrial television signals as well as all other available frequencies for mobile communications networks. In this way the important preconditions have been created for the development of broadband networks enabling the new with high quality services to be provided, what is one of the prerequisites for the economic development and competitive participation of our country in the European Union digital single market.
