Warning to users: Do not return text messages or calls from unknown international numbers or special tariff numbers!

Before returning a call or a text message, verify the number with your operator. If you suspect abuse or fraud, you may notify your operator or HAKOM to avoid unwanted costs.

ZAGREB, 29 July 2015. – Due to increased number of misleading text messages received by users through the international SMS centre +4673460090, the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) warns users once again to exercise caution when they receive a call or a text message from an unknown number, in particular from international or special tariff numbers. Before returning a call or a text message, verify the number with your operator. If you suspect abuse or fraud, you may notify your operator or HAKOM to avoid unwanted costs.

On Tuesday, 21 July, Hrvatski Telekom recorded increased numbers of text messages reading “Please call me now at 00447011920343”. This is a fraud attempt consisting of users being asked to call international numbers in order to incur significant cost. In order to protect its users, HT immediately took actions to block access to numbers mentioned in the text messages and thus prevented unwanted costs for users. Access to the above-mentioned number was successfully blocked.

Users are advised not to respond to such and similar messages and to be careful, in particular if they suspect the credibility of the sender, that is, if they do not know the number from which they received the text message because they might incur unwanted costs by placing calls to such numbers.
