HAKOM at the first joint meeting of the regulatory authorities

HAKOM participated at the first joint meeting of the regulators from Europe, Mediterranean countries, Africa and the Middle East as well as the regulatory authorities from South America, which was held on July 2 and 3, in Barcelona.
ZAGREB, 3 July 2015 - The first joint meeting of the European regulators (BEREC), Mediterranean European countries and African countries from the Mediterranean basin (EMERG), the Eastern Partnership countries (EaPeReg) as well as the South American regulatory authorities (REGULATEL) was held In Barcelona, on July 2 and 3, 2015.
The topic of the meeting refers to the challenges brought to the electronic communications sector by the new broadband ecosystem. A great part of the discussion was devoted to the growing impact of OTT service providers on the market, meaning whether the OTT service market providers and telecom operators should be on opposite sides, or they should cooperate what may bring benefits not only to the market development, but also to the end-users. In addition to the questions regarding the OTT services providers on the market, the issues on net neutrality, investment in fiber optic networks and Internet development in rural areas were discussed as well.
Following the meeting a plenary session of EMRG, HAKOM being its full member since March 2015, was held on July 2 2015, where the procedures to facilitate decision-making processes were adopted.
The meeting was attended by HAKOM’s representatives Domagoj Jurjević, Deputy President and Marko Čavlović, Assistant Director.
