HAKOM: Demand for High Speed Internet (Broadband Networks) and TV Program Broadcasting with the Charges Included is GrowingPRESS RELEASEAround 70 % of the population in the Republic of Croatia have the Internet access via cellular phones due to, among other things, the growth of smart phones numbers. Because of the increased number of the mobile Internet users and the obvious users’ demands for the higher speed of data transmission, the new technologies such as LTD are crucial for being networked in future.
Zagreb, May, 29 2015- In the first quarter of 2015 the Croatian electronic communications market showed that the trends from the previous period were continuing. The main areas of the services growth are the Broadband Internet Access and TV programme transmission with the charges included.
For more information on the electronic communications market situation please check the following link default.aspx?id=29.Providers’ investments into the upgrading and modernisation of the network especially into the VDSL infrastructure, have lately significantly contributed to the growth of the number of users at the speeds between 10 Mbt and 30 Mbt , The number of users increased up to 25 percent in the last quarter. It is expected that this growth will continue in the future due to the fact that HAKOM, already in December, 2014, enabled a comprehensive market competition regarding the higher speeds providing the users with much higher Internet access speed, and enabling the operators to further develop new services and increase speeds. Currently, there are about 4,5 millions active SIM cards in Croatia. Simultaneously, almost 70 percent of the population in Croatia have the Internet access via cellular phones, among other things, due to the increased number of smart phones among users. Because of the exponential growth of mobile Internet usage and increasing demands by the users for a faster data transmission, the new technologies as LTE represent a precondition for the future networked and satisfactory quality, regarding the speed of data transmission. Due to the more fierce competition and ever more intense struggle for the market share, a greater importance of the service packages comprising the multiple services and tariff models with unlimited traffic, is expected. In the past year the number of service package users increased for about 140 000. # # # For additional information please contact: Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) Roberta Frangeša Mihanovića 9 10110 Zagreb, Croatia Tel. + 385 (0) 1 700 70 07 Fax + 385 (0)1 700 70 70 Media inquiries can be submitted online using HAKOM’s official website: Registration required.
