HAKOM: New frequencies for Tele2 and HT
PRESS RELEASE
HAKOM allocated additional RF spectrum to HT and Tele2 thus enabling these two operators to increase existing network capacity and to improve quality of service and bringing additional HRK 65 million per year to the State Budget, as a total of HRK 650 million.
ZAGREB, 17 December 2014 – The Croatian Regulatory Agency for Network Industries (HAKOM) awarded the largest part of the remaining RF spectrum in the frequency band for mobile telecommunications networks 1805-1880/1710-1785 MHz to interested operators - Tele2 and Hrvatski telekom. The decision was adopted following a public invitation in early November this year since all submitted requests could be fulfilled.
Tele2, the only one of three mobile network operators who was not interested in the “digital dividend” frequencies that were awarded last year, now applied for the 2x15 MHz band, and HT requested additional 2x10 MHz. Since no other operators expressed their interest, and requests of Tele and HT could be fulfilled, HAKOM awarded the frequencies making sure that both operators are able to use under equal conditions all frequency resources in the band which was the subject of the public invitation. Allocation is technologically neutral which means that operators are free to use all the existing technologies permitted for mobile communications (from GSM to LTE)
The allocation of this additional RF spectrum will enable HT and Tele2 to increase their network capacities and improve quality of service provided to end users and to plan more efficiently their development and expansion and it will bring additional earnings of HRK 650 million by 2024.
