NEWS

HAKOM participated in the 4th BEREC plenary meeting which took place on 4 and 5 December in Brussels.

ZAGREB, 8 December 2014 – A plenary meeting of BEREC (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications) was held on 4 and 5 December in Brussels. For the second time in the row, the topic of international roaming dominated the meeting. Further to a proposal made by the European Parliament to charge same prices for roaming as for national calls (Roam Like at Home - RLAH), BEREC proposed to the European Commission “a clause for fair use of RLAH” with a view to reducing possible issues that might occur on the market due to the introduction of RLAH. Furthermore, BEREC is also planning to finish its opinion on RLAH in the upcoming period, that is, on possible consequences resulting from the introduction thereof.

BEREC Medium Term Strategy Outlook for 2015 – 2017 was also adopted at the meeting, as well as the 2015 Work Programme. This being the last meeting of the year, Vice-Chairs for 2015 and Chairs for 2016 were appointed. Vice-Chairs for 2015 are Lidia Koslowska (UKE – Poland) and Kevin O'Brien (COMREG – Ireland).  Wilhelm  Eschweiler (BNetzA – Germany) was appointed BEREC Chair for 2016. The cooperation agreement with members of the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg Network) was also signed at the meeting. The members of the partnership include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

A workshop on the upcoming review of the regulatory framework and introduction of “roam like at home” charging fees (RLAH) was held the day before the BEREC plenary meeting.
