ZAGREB, 5 December 2014 – The Commission for Electronic Communications Services was founded within the framework of the National Consumer Protection Council. The Commission is a working body of the National Council consisting of a representative of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), Mr. Ivo Majerski, Head of the Information and Consumer Protection Department, who is also the president of the Commission, a representative of the Ministry of the Economy as the umbrella consumer protection body, and representatives of consumer protection associations and operators. The Commission was founded to address more efficiently all the challenges in consumer protection in the electronic communications sector arising from two particular characteristics of this market: the widespread use of services exceeding multiple times the number of inhabitants in the Republic of Croatia and from the fact that this market was among the first to start the liberalization process and has achieved the most progress compared to other services offered in the Republic of Croatia.
In addition to the electronic communications market, the Commission will, under the scope of activities of the National Council, also deal with finding the best practice for general issues related exclusively to communications services which may be translated to other markets of the Republic of Croatia which still have not been fully liberalized.
