HAKOM at third BEREC’s plenary meeting in 2014
NEWS
HAKOM is participating at third BEREC’s plenary meeting in 2014 which is taking place on 25 and 26 September in Rome.
ZAGREB, 26 September 2014 – BEREC’s (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications) plenary meeting is taking place in Rome on 25 and 26 September 2014. One of the main topics of BEREC’s plenary meeting is international roaming. Following the European Parliament’s proposal that end users will be able, by the end of 2015, to Roam Like at Home – RLAH, active cooperation between BEREC and European institutions was very important for the definition of a future model for roaming services.
A clear activity plan of the IRG (Independent Regulatory Group) in 2015 was presented at the meeting. IRG will take over more responsibilities compared to 2014 and thus reduce BEREC’s workload resulting in greater efficiency of both institutions. Furthermore, a document was proposed for public consultation that will provide guidelines on how to prevent sales below cost and maintain efficient competition.
A workshop on challenges in the environment of next generation networks was held the day before the plenary session. The greatest challenge for the creation of a joint position are significant differences between countries in terms of infrastructure competition and unwillingness of users to pay more for next generation network services.
HAKOM’s representatives at the third plenary meeting included deputy president of HAKOM Domagoj Jurjević, who is at the same time a vice-chair of BEREC, a member of the Council of HAKOM, Nikola Popović, and assistant director Marko Čavlović.
