HAKOM: Price increases – termination of subscription contract at no cost for subscribers!

PRESS RELEASE

HAKOM published an expert opinion stating that, in case of price increase or introduction of additional fees, mobile subscribers will be able to terminate their contracts without being charged early termination fees.

ZAGREB, 27 May 2014 – Following the announcements made by operators concerning upcoming increases in prices of services in mobile communications networks due to the increase of fees that will have to be paid by operators for use of the radio frequency spectrum, HAKOM adopted an expert opinion laying down operators’ obligations and users’ rights in case of changes in prices for services.

It is stated in the expert opinion that any change in prices of services represents an amendment of subscription contracts between operators and existing users which means that operators will have to notify all users of the envisaged amendments in writing or electronically. Furthermore, subscribers will also have to be informed of their right to terminate the contract. HAKOM stated in its expert opinion that users were entitled to terminate their subscription contract within 30 days from the publication of amendments without being charged early termination fees, if the amendments to prices are less favourable for them compared to prices agreed in the subscription contract.
