HAKOM: The Rail Service Market Recorded Fall in Passenger Kilometres and Freight Transport recorded a Growth

In the second quarter of 2019 the rail service market recorded 12% growth compared to the same quarter of the previous year, and the number of passengers carried recorded fall of 3%

ZAGREB, September 27, 2019 - In the second quarter of 2019, the passenger rail market recorded 3% fall compared to the second quarter of 2018. In the same period, the number of realized passenger kilometres recorded fall of 3%. Despite the fall in the number of passengers and passenger kilometres, as a work  indicators of passenger transportation  there was a slight increase in the work of the railway services market in realized train- kilometres which are recording  0.31%  growth in the second quarter compared to the same quarter of previous years.

In the said period, a 5% the growth in freight transport was recorded, compared to the first quarter of the same year, as well as all rail service activities. The total number of tonne-kilometres in the second quarter of 2019 recorded 9.1  growth compared to the same quarter of previous year. New freight carriers have a 40 % share in tonne-kilometres in the second quarter which is an increase of 6 % compared to the same period last year. The amount of transported goods in the Croatian railways market is increasing year by year. Thus, the volume of transported goods increased by 12 % this quarter compared to the putative freight thus recording  increase of 7 % compared to  the same quarter of the previous year.
